Acrylic pour painting (also known as fluid art, flow art, or liquid art) is an abstract painting technique created by, you guessed it, pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas!

By mixing acrylic paint with a flow medium, arts can create captivating, smooth, marble-like artwork.

Every canvas is also pre-treated to create a glossy finish.

A dirty pour in acrylic fluid art is a technique where all the paint colours are added to one cup before they’re poured onto a canvas in a pattern. As the paints pour, they mix and blend together creating surprising designs.

A few acrylic pour techniques I use are:

Dirty Pour: colours are added to one cup and then poured onto the canvas altogether.

Puddle Pour: colours are pooled on top of each other on the canvas and then manipulated to create a pattern.

Split Cup Pour: colours are divided into their individual slots in a split cup before they blend as they are poured onto the canvas.

Swipe Pour: colours are poured onto the canvas and then swiped with a tool (spatula, towel, knife…).

Travelling Cup Pour: an open cylinder is placed on the canvas and paint is added to the top while it’s dragged across the canvas.

String Pull Pour: a piece of string is saturated with paint, then dragged across the canvas to create patterns.

Dutch Pour: patterns in the paint are created using a blowdryer, blow torch, straw or other air-based tools.

Balloon Kiss: an inflated balloon is pressed against pooled paint to create patterns on the canvas.
